Supplies and vet care

We supply everything your pet will need for their stay (food at additional cost) but if you wish to use any of your own things then we are happy to do this provided it meets our standards. We use auboise hemp as substrate and back to nature paper pellets for litter trays. We clean our cages and accessories with a water and white vinegar mixture and everything gets a thorough clean between each group of rats. 

We are happy to give any medication or supplement your rat needs but are unable to supply this ourselves.

We see an exotic vet who is brilliant with rats and is based in Stevenage. We are happy to take your rat to our vet or to your own vet, if needed, during their stay but will need all cost covered, including petrol costs if your vet is not local to Stevenage.  We will always contact you before taking your rat to a vet and will need pre-payment arranged with the vet surgery for more expensive treatment. In an emergency we have a single story hamster cage suitable for use as a hospital cage. We also have access to a portable nebuliser if this is something your rat needs.

We will provide a questionnaire which must be completed on booking as well as a a 20% deposit to secure your dates. Full payment should be made on drop off of your rats or on collection if you are unable to drop off and live locally. It is helpful for the rats if you can provide something that smells like home to put in the cage with them such as a lightly used hammock. We also suggest that you supply a small amount of bedding or substrate that has been in the cage for a few days. This helps the rats to settle as we will mix it with the fresh substrate to ensure their cage smells like them. This can make the transition a lot smoother for them and reduce stress and the need for excess scent marking.
